Security Smart Newsletter FAQ
What's the purpose of this newsletter?
The Security Smart Newsletter helps build security awareness throughout your organization by making security reminders and information fun, interesting, and engaging. An annual subscription includes four issues, one distributed to you each quarter.
If it's a business newsletter, why does it include articles about personal security issues?
See the first question! The very best way to get employees' attention is to start off with what's in it for them. The first article in each newsletter does exactly that, handling subjects such as how to protect yourself from identity theft. Employees are much more likely to listen to security information when it provides them with personal benefit.
What topics will the newsletter cover - does it talk about information security, physical security, fraud, or safety?
All of the above! Most people don't think of security as a bunch of different topics. To them, security is security. And if they have good awareness and good habits in one area of security, those tend to cross over into other areas. The more newsletters you ask them to read, the less likely they are to read any. It's much more effective to cover everything in one fun, engaging package. Specific topics can be suggested for consideration upon subscription.
In what format is Security Smart distributed?
Security Smart can be distributed via pdf, on a web-hosted link or printed, which ever format works best for your organization.
Can I customize the newsletter for my organization?
Yes, subscribers may select the customization option, which includes your organization's logo on the cover of the newsletter and the contact information of the department of individual of your choice in the footer on each page of the newsletter.
What does a Security Smart subscription include?
An annual Security Smart subscription includes four 4-page issues distributed quarterly in February, May, August and November.
Will a Security Smart subscription fulfill the NERC security awareness requirements?
In addition to providing security awareness for employees in all industries, the quarterly Security Smart newsletter fulfills Section R1 of the Personnel and Training requirements from NERC (CIP-004-1).
